Extracts from inspection report on the local hospital for insanes, by W Russell, Session Judge, 24 Pergunnahs, Bengal, to Judicial Department of Government of India. Plan of hospital (pp 116-17). Section A of report (pp 166-71) discusses the gardening carried out by patients. Successful cultivation of coffee, cotton, sugar cane, cactus, sapan, mulberry, aloe, among other plants; cochineal insects also successfully reared. Produce commended by the local horticultural society. Russell considers coffee the most suitable crop to concentrate on.
