The sheets cover a route proceeding south through Chihli (直隸) Province from Paoting (保定) by way of Chengting (正定) to Hantan (邯鄲), to Weihwei, Honan (衛輝, 河南), then west through Honan to Lingpao (靈寶) above the Sanmen Rapids (三門峽) on the Hwang Ho (黃河), crossing the river at Tungkwan (潼關) passing through the south-west extremity of Shansi (山西) Province, re-crossing the river to Chaoyi, Shensi (朝邑, 陕西), then by way of Ling-kou (零口) to Sian (西安), finally south to Shihchuan (石泉) on the Han River (漢江). Relief is shown with form lines and spot heights, also hydrology and numbered settlements. The sheets bear the numbering 'Map No 1.' to 'Map No 10.' Map No 2 is not present, apparently never received by the War Office. Each sheet bears a tabulated list of place-names given in Wade-Giles romanisation
