Workman fixing glass on pattern dusted on with chalk. Main shrine facing north [Shwe Dagon Pagoda, Rangoon]. Photographer: Klier, Philip Adolphe
- Scope & Content:
-
Genre: Architectural Photography
Close view of craftsman, at work on a column of a new shrine: 'The shrine facing the north has been pulled down and a new one is being built. Photographs (Nos. 5 and 6) have been taken of the men actually fixing on the glass mosaic, and in No. 5 a very good idea can be formed of the patterns used by modern masters. In this instance the ground colour is dull green, while the stems of the tendrils are white and the leaves in purple and orange; the whole interlaced with a purple geometrical patterns, while a gilded line outlines each colour. A workman is shown who, having first dusted the pattern in chalk through a carboard stencil, is pressing on with black putty the dark-green pieces which have previously been cut to shape in the workshop.
