- Title:
- ‘Sketch showing Turco Persian Frontier as occupied and claimed by Persia west and south of Hawizeh according to statements of local inhabitants in April 1912’
- Scope & Content:
-
The map is signed P Z Cox [Lieutenant-Colonel Percy Zachariah Cox, Political Resident in the Persian Gulf] and dated 5 May 1912. A note on the map indicates that it was compiled from a plane-table survey from Hawizeh [Hoveyzeh] via Shuaib to Diaiji [Duaiji], and from existing maps prepared by surveyor S Firoz Bakht, under the supervision of Cox.
Indicated on the map are: rivers, canals and irrigation systems associated with the Euphrates and Karoon [Kārūn] rivers; towns and villages; marshland; and agricultural land. A dotted line indicates the course followed by Cox. A dotted-dashed line indicates the frontier between Persia and Turkish Mesopotamia, as claimed by Persia.
