Copy of a sketch map ‘on nature of the defences being erected by the enemy at Mohumera’ [Khorramshahr, formerly Mohammerah] (see f 409). The map includes lists of the works and distances (these are not accurate or to scale); the position of the Hafar [al-Hafar] or Karun River and the Shut al Arab [Shatt al-Arab] or Bussorah [Basra] River; groves of date trees on the river banks; and a ‘low island in the middle of the stream’.
The original sketch was drawn by Claude Merriman, Lieutenant, Field Engineer, Persian Field Force.
The copy was made by John Hill, Major, Commanding Engineer, Persian Field Force. The map is authenticated on the right, ‘Camp Bushire, 10th January 1857’.
