This sketch map shows the routes of ‘slave caravans’ [caravans of enslaved people] through Abyssinia [the Ethiopian Empire] to the shores of Arabia, specifically to Mocha, Hodeida [Al Hudaydah] and Loheia [Al Luhayyah]. The routes are indicated by red lines, and the sketch map also includes the names of settlements, hydrology, and some indication of relief.
The map includes the inscription: ‘Copied from the Orig.[ina]l by L.D. Costao.[?]’ and is signed ‘W. C. Harris [William Cornwallis Harris], Capt:[ain] Engineer’s on special duty’.
