A copy of a sketch map by Mr Litchfield, the officer in command of the schooner Emily, of the position of Mohumra [Khorramshahr]. The map shows the position of Mohumra Island ‘if so it can be called’, relative to the River Euphrates and the River Caroon [Karun], and the mainland on the South West, the East and South East, and the North East and North West.

Mohumra Town is indicated on the island. A ‘Turkish fort’ and ‘Ruined fort of Mohumra’ are also indicated on the map, as is the station of Turkish [Ottoman] vessels for exacting custom dues from vessels going to Mohumra or up the Caroon, and other information about tides and hydrology. Depths in soundings are shown in one part of the map next to where a ‘Channel for the “Emily” [and] one steam boat’ is indicated.

The copy of the map includes the inscription: ‘Sketch by Mr Litchfield from memory Mr Litchfield has been twice at Bussorah [Basra] and the last time he was there was about a month ago in Command of the “Emily” schooner’, signed by Henry Dundas Robertson, Officiating Resident at in the Persian Gulf, dated 3 January 1843.
