This sketch map shows a plan of the city of Bussorah [Basra]. A numbered list identifies major buildings, and also indicates the city walls and gates, bazars [bazaars], and ruins. The Shatt al-Arab (labelled as the Euphrates), other hydrology, and vegetation are also indicated.
The map is a copy of a map by C Walker, Lieutenant of Engineers, April 1840. The copy is signed Captain Nathaniel Henry Thornbury, Assistant Secretary, Military Board in charge, and was copied in the Chief Engineer’s Office, Bombay [Mumbai], 20 June 1840.
