Notes, correspondence and photographs assembled by Skelton for an article (?never published) on two manuscript maps, one by John Dee, 1580 (Britain and the polar regions), with annotations by William Cecil, Lord Burghley; and the other by Robert Norman, 1581 (the coastline from southern England to the Straits of Gibraltar).

These maps had been discovered bound into Lord Exeter's copy of the Theatrum Orbis Terrarum at Burghley House, Lincolnshire.
