Each volume has a listing of correspondents and subjects at the front, although some items listed are not included. Arrangement is according to the original listing and is broadly chronological rather than alphabetical.

There is a break in the sequence between November 2000 and September 2001; accounted for by an entry on 30 September 2001 which states that 'overnight there is a robbery at GC [Gloucester Crescent, Stafford-Clark's residence] and . . . diary, journal . . . are stolen' (Add. 84848).
