A consignment of trees and seeds is sent by the Horticultural Society of London to St Helena - suggestion of the Society that plants from China and the East Indies on homeward bound ships should be kept temporarily at St Helena.
A donation of 3,000 rupees is made by the Bengal Government to Captain John Brown for his completion of certain maps and surveys during John Crawfurd's mission to Siam and Cochin China.
The Bengal Government take grave exception to a letter signed 'a young officer' published in the Calcutta Journal of 2 April 1823 - they demand that the editor John Francis Sandys reveal the author's name.
