- The collection consists of baptism, marriage and burial registers of the Pardos y Morenos inhabitants of Matanzas. The whole of the Fonds (held by the Catedral de Matanzas) contains all records of baptisms (Bautismos), burials (Entierros), marriages (Matrimonios) and out-of-wedlock births (Hijos Naturales) in the city of Matanzas. The records are organised in books (libros), divided into three categories: Blancos (whites), Indios (Natives) and Pardos y Morenos (Blacks). Only the Libros de Pardos y Morenos have been copied by the EAP proejct. The original volumes cover the dates 1719-1910.

- The records in this Collection were created as part of the Project: EAP060 Pilot project to identify endangered African diaspora collections at the major archives of the province of Matanzas, Cuba. The original files are held by the Archivo Historico Provincial de Matanzas.

- Received from Mr Oscar Grandio Moraguez, October 2007 (Accession Record EAP060)
- Administrative Context:
- EAP060 was funded by the Endangered Archives Programme. It created digital copies of records held by the Archivo Historico Provincial de Matanzas and the Catedral de Matanzas. Since its foundation, the Cathedral kept records of all baptisms, burials and marriages celebrated in the city of Matanzas. This information was recorded into registers and organised into libros (books) which were divided into three categories: Blancos (whites), Indios (Natives) and Pardos y Morenos (Blacks).
