Letters and papers of the pianist Harriet Cohen (b. 1895, d. 1967): 1846-1967, n.d. The collection consists mostly of letters, with some telegrams, photographs, photographic negatives and other documents. Some of the material was formerly owned by Arnold Bax and the collection also includes unpublished writings of Bax. The correspondence of Cohen and Bax (approximately 1900 letters) forms the bulk of the collection, but there are also many letters from other musicians, patrons and friends. The names of correspondents and of subjects of photographs are in the index to this catalogue. See also Cohen’s memoirs A Bundle of Time (1969). The collection was bequeathed to the British Museum by Harriet Cohen in 1967 and reserved from public use until 14 December 1998 by the Trustees of the British Museum.
52 volumes. The collection was received in four metal trunks. The arrangement of the material within these trunks has been largely preserved, as follows:-
