FULKE GREVILLE: 'The Warwick Manuscripts', comprising the poems, plays and one prose work of Sir Fulke Greville, 1st Baron Brooke; circa 1619-1628. Fair copies with autograph revisions. The texts, which do not appear to have been used in printing the posthumous editions, were collated:
(a) with Certain Learned and Elegant Works of . . . Lord Brooke (1633) by
G. Bullough, Poems and Dramas of Fulke Greville, 2 vols. (1939);- (b) with the treatises of 'Monarchy' and 'Religion', first published in 1670, by G. A. Wilkes, The Remains (1965). For a full discussion of these manuscripts see

nos. 3-4 (1970), pp. 107-121. Owned by Benjamin Heywood Bright, and purchased by Thomas Thorp, bookseller, at the sale of his library, Sotheby's,
18 June 1844, lot 107. Later owned by the Greville family, Earls of Warwick. The volumes were part of the Local Library at Warwick Castle and all bear Warwick Castle and Local Library bookplates. Sold by Charles Guy Fulke Greville, 7th Earl of Warwick, Christies, 19 June 1968, lot 136. Christie's stock-number (607 RF) appears in each, along with the marking 'W2' on the verso of the front cover. Purchased, with the aid of the Pilgrim Trust, Mr John Fleming,
Mr Arthur A. Houghton, Jr., and the Hon. C. A. Lennox-Boyd, 11 Jan. 1969.
Paper. Six volumes. Of the hands designated a - d by Bullough, op. cit., i, pp. 30-32, a and b are by the same scribe. Revisions in hand d occur in all volumes. Limp vellum bindings with green ribbon-ties, 17th cent. Spines lettered A - F.
