The papers appear not to be among the Burns collections described in Cameron Hazelhurst and others, A guide to the papers of British cabinet ministers, 1900-1964, ( 1996 ); William Kent F.S.A. may have seen some newscuttings in the present collection before writing John Burns: Labour's lost Leader, ( 1950 ), though he could have used duplicates kept elsewhere. They seem not to have been available to Kenneth D. Brown for his John Burns ( 1977 ). Purchased at Bonham's Sale, 1 Dec. 1998, lot 582A. Lot 608 in the same sale, a letter to Burns from George Bernard Shaw, 29 June 1893, probably came from this collection.
