DESPATCHES AND PAPERS RELATING TO DALMATIA; 1705-1709. Italian. Copies. A collection of despatches from Giustino da Riva, Provveditore Generale of Dalmatia and Albania, and other papers relating to Dalmatia and his successor Vincenzo Vendramin. The MSS. are described by Foligno, anno 6, t. xii (1906), pt. ii, no. cxxxv, pp. 336-337. They are also mentioned in Markotic, pp. 267-268. Armorial bookplates of Bernardo di Antonio Nani (front pastedown of each volume; for the Nani bookplate see Bragaglia, vol. ii, no. 655: c. 1750). Owned by Frederick North, 5th Earl of Guilford, but lacking his armorial bookplate. '356' in pencil in top left corner of front pastedowns. Purchased, together with Add. 8610-8613, 8616, 8617, 8618, 8619, and 8620-8622, from R. H. Evans, 8 Dec. 1830, lot 356 (part).
Paper. Two volumes. 300 x 214mm. 18th-cent. binding of mottled brown leather with gilt-tooled spines in compartments; mottled edges.
