This collection contains digital images of one of the bound volumes (volume 5) of the Register of Births (Freetown) created by the Government Secretariat of Sierra Leone. Although approximately 56 bound volumes are identified in the Listing Form in the Sierra Leone Public Archives, only 6 volumes have been surveyed. The Birth Registers list births by name, sex, names of parents, including maiden name of mothers, occupation of father, signature and residence of informant and date--for the following districts: Freetwon, Western, Eastern, Northern, Mountain. The dates range from 1857 to 1893. Volume 5 for the District of Freetown (9th October 1863-4th December 1864) has been copied.
