Title:

B.G. Bromochary, 'Views of Benares, from the River Side' (Benares, 1869).

Scope & Content:

Black half-leather and green buckram bound album measuring 460x387mm, with decorative endpapers, containing 23 albumen prints mounted one to a page, with letterpress captions and descriptive text printed below each image. Each leaf also includes the title of the series, 'Views of Benares, from the River Side', and the photographer attribution, 'By B.G. Bromochary Photographer to H.H. the Maharaja of Benares - 1869.' The album consists of a series of views of the ghats on the Ganges at Varanasi and associated buildings. The volume was restored and rebound with acid free interleaving by the Salisbury Bookbinders in 1985.
