Choice examples of Wedgwood art. A selection of plaques, cameos, medallions, vases, etc., from the designs of Flaxman and others. Reproduced in permanent photography by the Autotype process. Photographer(s): Unknown
- Scope & Content:
-
Imprint: London: George Bell and Sons, York Street, Covent Garden. 1879.
Folio, half leather and brown cloth (British Museum binding, recovered 1938), measuring 364 x 296 mm; unpaginated. The work contains 30 finely reproduced autotypes (carbon prints) of works produced by Thomas Wedgwood, the majority from original designs by John Flaxman, with accompanying letterpress descriptions by Eliza Meteyard. The prints are guard-mounted on card, with a single page of descriptive text facing each image. The work forms an excellent example of the ability of the carbon print to reproduce fine detail and texture.
