EDEN, EMILY (1797-1869)
Emily Eden, seventh daughter of William Eden, 1st Baron Auckland, accompanied her brother, Lord Auckland, to India when he was Governor-General from 1836 to 1842. She was a keen amateur artist, some of her drawings being reproduced in ‘Portraits of the princes and people of India’ (London, 1844). Her journal, ‘Up the country,’ was published in 1866, and her ‘Letters from India’ (2 vols.) in 1872.
