Note: Original drawing for lithograph in Emily Eden, ‘Portraits of the princes and people of India’ (London, 1844), plate 1. Dost Muhammad Khan, ruler of Kabul and Ghazni from 1826 and Amir of Afghanistan 1836 to 1840 and again from 1841 to 1863, was drawn by Emily Eden while he was Lord Auckland’s guest at Barrackpore in June 1841.
