GRINDLAY, ROBERT MELVILLE (1786-1877)
Served with 7th Bombay Native Infantry 1804-20. Lieutenant 1804. Captain 1817. After his retirement he founded the firm of Grindlay & Company. Grindlay was a skilled amateur artist and aquatints were made from his drawings for ‘Scenery, Costumes and Architecture, Chiefly on the Western Side of India’, 6 parts (London, 1826-30). They depict scenes mainly in Sind, Gujarat, Bombay, Rajputana and Hyderabad.
