Hyderabad on the Indus. Plate 5, frontispiece to vol. III of Burnes’ Travels into Bokhara, by Edward Francis Finden after William Purser and Robert Melville Grindlay.. Artist(s): Finden, Edward Francis (1791-1857) after Purser, W (c.1790-1852) and Grin
- Scope & Content:
-
‘Hyderabad on the Indus. From a sketch taken on the spot by Capt. Grindlay in 1808. Drawn by W. Purser. Engraved by E. Finden. London. Published 1834 by John Murray, Albemarle Street’.
Inscribed on album page: ‘From Alex Burnes to Captain Grindlay with many acknowledgements’.
Note: Plate 5, frontispiece to vol. III of Burnes’ ‘Travels into Bokhara’. There seems to be no record of Grindlay’s being in Sind in 1808. He was employed in Captain Williams’ Survey of N.W. Gujarat in 1809-10 as Assistant Surveyor, but was not part of the Sind expedition of the same period.
