PRINSEP, THOMAS (1800-1830)
Born London, eighth son of John Prinsep and younger brother of William and James. Bengal Engineers. Cadet 1818; Lieutenant 1823; Captain 1827. Surveyor with the Commissioners in the Sundarbans 1821 to 1824. Stationed at Chittagong 1825 to 1826, serving in First Burma War. After recuperating from illness in Penang he was appointed Superintendent of Canals from 1826 until his death following a riding accident. Married Lucy Campbell, sister of William Prinsep's wife Mary, in February 1829. William Prinsep pays several tributes to his brother’s talent as an artist in his memoirs, Mss Eur D1160: ‘The good teaching he had benefitted by at Addiscombe under one of the Fieldings led to his rapid improvement and I gained very much myself from working at his side....’
