Three treatises on archery and horsemanship

Three works on archery, horsemanship and military matters. The first two texts are by Abū Muḥammad ʿAbd al-Raḥmān Aḥmad al-Ṭabarī (أبو محمد عبد الرحمن أحمد الطبري, active ca 9th century), originator of the 'eclectic' (اختياري) approach to archery training which permitted the archer to recombine aspects of the various existing traditions to suit his individual physical requirements. A note on the final flyleaf attributes authorship of the third text also to al-Ṭabarī.
The volume has incurred some losses. Historic re-binding is suggested by a large stain affecting the third text only, and by the Eastern Arabic pagination and intermittent catchwords added in pencil.

Foliation: British Museum foliation in pencil, previous eastern Arabic pagination on recto sides in pencil starting from f. 1r; some quire markings in black ink (see f. 33r, 44r, 63r and 83r). The final word or two words of verso sides are normally repeated on the first line of the next recto side; where these are absent, slanted catchwords have been added in pencil to the lower gutter margin of verso sides.
Ruling: Misṭarah; 13 lines per page; vertical spacing 9 lines per 10 cm

Ink: Black ink, with rubricated headings and keywords
Decoration: Drawings on ff. 36r, 38r, 38v, and 40r.
Binding: Maroon leather British Museum binding
Condition: Tail edge corners torn and repaired; A large stain has marked ff. 97-116. Some folios are missing in the first and third texts
