During the four last decades, the family transmission of Siddha medical practice has drastically decreased due to the government policy towards siddha practitioners trained traditionally. Because of the lack of interest of their children, some practitioners prefer to give their manuscripts when they have the opportunity. CTMR has therefore created this manuscript collection during its various projects aiming to protect and improve the Siddha medical knowledge.
The collection CTMR constitutes of 18 manuscripts coming from Siddha practitioners who resided in 3 different Tamil districts.The manuscripts are arranged in three series according to the place where they were collected: 1 manuscript is from Salem (series SA_), 1 from Kanniyakumari (series KK_), 1 from Chennai and 15 whose the place of origin is unknown which are included in the series CH_ as they are hosted at CTMR, Chennai.
This collection contains the following series:
