Foliation: The foliation is continuous across Add MS 5240 and 5241. 137 numbered folios, plus folio 45* and 20 unnumbered folios, mostly blank, making a total of 158 folios.
- Custodial History:
- The manuscripts of Sir Hans Sloane were purchased at his death from his executors by the Act of Parliament which established the British Museum in 1753.
- Source of Acquisition:
- The Sloane Manuscripts were held by the British Museum Department of Manuscripts until 1973 after which they were transferred to the British Library.

Part of this description has been transcribed from the handwritten Catalogue of Additional Manuscripts, vol. 21 (1832), located in the Manuscripts Reading Room, where the volume is described as: ' “Cavesson Francois, ou Traicté de l’ambouchure des chevaux, et de tornure de branches, leurs norns, et leurs effects, avec les gourmettes propre pour le manton des chevaux. Dedié a Monseigneur le Conte de Du Nois. Par Gaspard Moreau, maistre Espremier de la ville de Paris. Facet en l’année mil six cens cinquante neuf.” Accompanied by numerous drawings of Bridles and Bits. No. 4241. contains similar drawings of Bits and Bridles, apparently by the same hand, and is bound up with the former. Together they form a folio volume, ff. 137'.
