Add MS 5240

A treatise about horse tack, with manuscript text in French providing instruction about the appropriate manner of equipping a horse. In between the pages of text are watercolour drawings of horses and of bridles, stirrups and bits. Drawings and text are executed directly onto the pages of the manuscript, filling both recto and verso. The treatise is preceded by a manuscript title page (f.1) in French that features the coat of arms of the Dukes of Longueville, which is another title of Jean-Louis-Charles d'Orleans-Longueville, Comte de Dunois, to whom the treatise is dedicated. The title page is followed by an architectural frontispiece (f. 2), with the title in French at the centre: "Cavesson Francois ou traicte de l'ambouchure des chevaux avec les figures de plusieurs sortes d'ambouchure et de differente torniure de branche leurs noms et leurs effect avec les gourmettes de differente maniere propre pour le monton des chevaux. Dedié a monseigneur Le Conte de Dunois Par Gaspard Moreau Maistre Espronnier A Paris En Lanne Mil Six cens cinquante neuf". Add MS 5240 is bound together with Add MS 5241, which features more drawings of bits and bridles.
