The contents of boxes and the alphabetical arrangement of names follows the arrangement of the collection as it arrived from Bowood House. Royal and Special Correspondence have been placed at the beginning of the arrangement and, in some cases, series of Special Correspondence have been taken out of miscellaneous boxes (e.g. Maria Edgeworth). Some volumes have also been split or amalgamated. Wherever possible, the numbers of the original boxes have been noted as Former External References. Some volumes of the Bowood Papers appear to have been re-sorted in 1981 and annotated in pencil.
