Scope & Content:

This section contains mythical narratives of the extraordinary accomplishments of Ebu Ali Sina (Avicenna, who is the subject of a number of such tales) and his twin brother Ebu’l-Haris based on their mastery of alchemy. In the present manuscript, the word sima is used in error for simya in the title and throughout the text.

The present work may be based on Ziyaeddin Yahya’s versified version of the Ebu Ali Sina and Ebu’l-Haris legends, titled Gencine-i hikmet (Harley MS 5456). The Gencine-i hikmet was highly popular judging by the many manuscripts of the work that survive. In contrast, there do not appear to be other copies (if any) of the present volume.
