Custodial History:: Formed by Herbert L'Estrange Ewen (1876-1912). Result of an amalgamation of Ewen's collection with that of James Ludovic Lindsay, 26th Earl of Crawford and 9th Earl of Balcarres, FRS, FRAS, KT (1847-1913) in 1904. Inherited by sister Mrs Clement Williams. Donated to the British Museum Library, 1949. Transferred to the British Library, 1973.
