Letters and cards originally retained together in a single expanding file with alphabetical sub-divisions, and marked as 'undated'.

The contents have been kept as found, even though a few letters are clearly dated or, in some cases, an approximate date may be inferred. The expanding file also contained a number small items (postcards, greetings cards, and original cards) that were stored together because of their similar physical size - these items have been also retained together as found.

The contents are these files are therefore very varied, including letters, cards, envelope fronts, and notes, some of which are anonymous. Where the author of a communication is given in full, it is recorded in the description field for that file. Communications signed with a first name only are filed by that name.

NB: Correspondents who seldom dated their letters are better represented in this series of files than in the main alphabetical sequence (e.g. Ulli Freer).
