- Scope & Content:
- These consist mainly of collections of Parliamentary Papers on subjects or areas which were of interest to the India Office and its predecessors. They are mainly arranged by subject, and date mostly from the second half of the 18th century, with copies of some earlier items. Some materials published by the Stationery Office or the Government of India as well as a few unpublished items – reports, correspondence, and minutes of evidence – are also included. The numbers which are quoted with the papers in each collection refer to the series published respectively by the two Houses of Parliament. The Papers of the House of Lords are distinguished throughout by the letters “H. L.”, while those of the House of Commons have no prefix except in those cases where it has been considered desirable to insert “H.C.” to prevent misunderstanding. Command papers have the prefix “C” or “Cd”, the latter being a new series. Papers of the earlier years were published without a number. Numbers IOR/L/PARL/2/379 and IOR/L/PARL/2/402 were not used; for IOR/L/PARL/2/4 and IOR/L/PARL/2/5 see IOR/L/PARL/2/446 and IOR/L/PARL/2/370.
