BROUGHTON PAPERS. General correspondence, political and private, of John Cam Hobhouse, Baron Broughton;
1774-1867. The names of all the writers appear in the Index. Seventeen volumes. Paper. Folio.
The political correspondence follows closely the circumstances of Lord Broughton's public life, his election for Westminster and imprisonment, 1819-1820 (Vols. II., III.), the Queen's case, 1820-1821 (Vols. III., IV.), the French invasion of Spain, 1823 (Vol. V.), the Greek Committee, 1823-1829 (Vols. Among his principal correspondents are Francis Place, the Westminster agent, Sir Francis Burdett, and Lord Cochrane. In Vol. III. f. 254, is a letter from Comte de las Cases in 1820 after leaving St. Helena; in VoI. Polidori in 1816, f. 337 ; a sketch by Hobhouse of an introduction to the Historical Illustrations, f. 425b;-Vol. II., Hobhouse to the Chev. de Brême, who maligned him to Byron on the score of the " Essay on Italian Literature" in 1818, f. 144; MSS. of "oevre rraioes rwv 'EXX@v(.)v" and a dramatic piece in Greek, the one wholly, the other in part, translated by Byron, ff. 152, 154; J.
