BERKELEY PAPERS. Vols. VIII, IX. Correspondence, including, besides letters addressed to Bishop Berkeley, a number addressed to Thomas Secker, Archbishop of Canterbury. The bulk of the correspondence, however, after Bishop Berkeley's death is that of his son George Berkeley, junior, LL.D., Vicar of Bray, Prebendary of Canterbury. etc. (d. 1795), his wife Eliza Berkeley (who has endorsed many of the letters) and their son George Monck Berkeley (d. 1793). Vol. VIII. 1710-1776. Vol. IX. 1777-1828 and undated. Included in vol. VIII are a list of subscriptions for the Bermuda scheme, 1724 (f. 63), a Latin epitaph in Berkeley's hand on Thomas Prior, 1751 (f. 64), and a petition by Sir Alexander Cuming, Chief of the Cherokees, 1764 (f. 158). In vol. IX (f. 181) is a draft of part, of Eliza Berkeley's preface to her son's poems (1797, see pp. cccxciii sqq., ccccxvii sqq.). Among the writers, whose names are given in the Index, are : -
