46460. SHREWSBURY (TALBOT) PAPERS. Vol. VII (ff. vii + 213). Papers of the Wellys al. Welles family of Hoar Cross Manor, in Yoxall, co. Staff. The manor was sold in 1748 to Charles Talbot, father of the 15th Earl of Shrewsbury, but family connection existed between the Wellys and Talbot families by reason of the fact that Winifred Howard (d.s.p. 1734), last descendant of the former family, married Peter Giffard of Chillington, a relative of the latter (see also Add. MS. 46458, Add. Ch. 74016-74020, and S. Shaw, The History and Antiquities of Staffordshire, 1798, i, pp. 103-105 ). Some vellum fragments (ff. i-vii) taken from the binding of Add. MS. 46460 are mounted at the beginning. Ff. iii-vi appear to relate to papal privileges.
