C. A copy of the Coucher Book or Customary of the Honour of Tutbury, of which John Wellys was appointed Receiver in 1485 (see Add. Ch. 74016 ), and which was attached to the Crown in the right of the Duchy of Lancaster since the reign of Henry IV. 'The original was drawn up by Thomas Somercoates, Auditor of the Honour, Thomas Boothby, Receiver, and Thomas Wade, Lieut. Steward, under a commission dated 4 Feb. 1415 (cf. Royal MS. 18 B.x, f.23). The book is incomplete at the beginning and starts on p. 3 (f. 180) with part of a list of towns of the Honour in Derbyshire, followed by the High Peak on f. 180b, Nottingham f. 181, and Leicestershire and Warwickshire f. 181b. The MS. continues as follows:-
(1) Names of the Officers in the Honour. ff. 182-183.
(2) Their duties. ff. 183b-199.
(3) The liberties and customs of the towns and free tenants within the Honour. On ff. 203b-204 are details of the annual presentation of a buck to the Prior of Tutbury on the feast of the Assumption. ff. 199-205.
(4) Liberties and customs of tenants in Needwood Forest and Duffield Frith. ff. 205-208.
(5) List of fees, wages and rewards allowed annually in the accounts of the King's Receiver of the Honour, incomplete, ending with details of the officers of the lordship of Castle Donington. ff. 208b-209b.
