- Title:
- Supplementary Papers of C. J. Fox
- Scope & Content:
- Correspondence and papers of the Hon. Charles James Fox (b. 1749; d. 1806), statesman, second son of Henry, 1st Baron Holland, with correspondence and journals of C. J. Fox's wife, Elizabeth Bridget née Cane ('Mrs Armistead') (d. 1842). The official papers included are chiefly those of C. J. Fox as Foreign Secretary in 1806 (for this period see H. Butterfield, Charles James Fox and Napoleon: the peace negotiations of 1806, 1962, who did not use the papers). Some of the papers of C. J. Fox were apparently recovered after his death from among the papers of Sir Francis Vincent, 9th Bart, Under-Secretary for Foreign Affairs (see Add MS 51414, ff. 181-185b), and the present collection includes other correspondence acquired by the latter. Supplementary to Add MSS 47559-47601, which became separated from the main series of Holland House Papers on the death of Elizabeth, Lady Holland in 1845 (see Brit. Mus. Quart. xviii, 1953, pp. 39-41).
