- The protocolo series within the Notaría Primera de Riohacha collection contains books of records, referred to as "protocolos." The protocolos include a broad assortment of notarial documents including wills and testaments, sales (slaves, homes, plots, rooms), payments (mortgages, taxes), emancipation certificates, and bonds. The records refer to the years 1792 to 1950. Most were produced in Riohacha, but some documents refer to Curação and outlying provinces. Many records also point to sales between families in Riohacha and Dutch and English-speaking foreigners.
