The British Fulbright Scholars Association Papers

Scope & Content:

The BFSA was a registered charity and operated with a volunteer committee of Fulbright grantees and a part-time funded Alumni Manager, within an office provided by the Fulbright Commission. It was established in 1982 and re-launched in 2000-2001. The aim of the BFSA was to facilitate relationships, national and international, among individuals, government bodies, corporations and businesses. The BFSA supported and promoted the Fulbright ideals of international educational and cultural exchange. It provided hospitality through its mentoring programme for the American Fulbright students, scholars and teachers during their stay in the UK establishing contacts maintained through the BFSA office via its established network and database of members. The BFSA arranged a calendar of high profile events, lectures and debates to stimulate transatlantic networking and keep members in touch with one another. Programmes included; mentoring, quarterly newsletter, autumn reception, annual lecture, AGM, annual concert, awards an annual travel award, and other ad-hoc events in the regions of the UK and informal advertising of the works of BFSA members. Former sponsors of the BFSA included; the US Embassy, the Bank of America, Atlantic Law, British Council and The Fulbright Commission.
