- Scope & Content:
- Correspondence of William Kinsey relating to the publication of his book ‘Portugal Illustrated’ (London: Treuttel & Würtz, 1828). Correspondents include the engravers, printers, binders and publishers involved in the project, as well as potential subscribers to the book among his contemporaries at Oxford, friends from Bristol, seafaring families in Falmouth, and his relatives. Among the names are Auguste Pugin (senior, 1762–1832), Charles T. Longley (future Archbishop of Canterbury, 1794–1868), the poet Thomas Haynes Bayly (1797–1839) and the engraver Joseph Skelton (1783–1871). There are also some letters by Kinsey himself.
Most of the letters are addressed to Kinsey at 1, Richmond Terrace, Clifton, Bristol.
