- Highlord's (or Hylord's) Court was situated in Crutched Friars, adjacent to the Fenchurch Street warehouse. The East India Company first considered the purchase of the property in 1793 in order to protect the warehouse from the risk of fire, but the terms offered to the Company were unsuitable. Fresh negotiations were begun in 1817 with Joseph Hibbert, the proprietor since 1811, and the estate came into Company ownership in June 1822. The Company retained the part of Highlord's Court nearest to their warehouse and sold the remainder of the buildings to Thomas and James Foster in July 1824. The estate was subject to charges under the terms of John Highlord's Gift, a charity administered by the parish of St Olave Hart Street.
