- In 1796 the East India Company purchased the unexpired term of a lease on Hammond's Quay as part of the agreement with Curling and Johnson by which Lyons Quay was acquired. The East India Company paid £2,500 for the lease which had been granted to Curling and Johnson by the Vintners' Company, and in 1799 sold an underlease of the quay to William Skrine for £2,000. In 1805 the East India Company surrendered its lease to the Crown which had purchased the inheritance of Hammond's Quay from the Vintners' Company in pursuance of the West India Dock Acts.
