- Title:
- Aldermanbury/London Wall; Budge Row; Tower Royal; Ropemakers Alley, St Giles Without Cripplegate; Back Alley, Southwark; Monkwell (Mugwell) Street
- Scope & Content:
- The following five groups of deeds for Aldermanbury/London Wall, Budge Row/Tower Royal, Ropemakers Alley, Back Alley and Monkwell Street were found placed together in the India Office Records. It is believed that these are documents relating to properties held by the Lawford family which were taken to East India House by the Company solicitor, Edward Lawford. Lawford's grandfather Valentine appears as a party to the deeds for Aldermanbury/London Wall and for Budge Row/Tower Royal, while the first party to the Back Alley deed includes Valentine Lawford's future wife, Katherine Short. Her maternal grandfather John Duck is named in the Back Alley and Ropemakers Alley deeds.
