- In 1860, whilst awaiting the completion of the new building at Whitehall, the India Office moved from East India House in Leadenhall Street to temporary accommodation in Victoria Street, occupying the building which was later to become the Westminster Palace Hotel. The Secretary of State moved his department from Victoria Street into the new India Office in the summer of 1867.
