Titus/Gormenghast Series

Scope & Content:

Drafts of first three novels and beginning of fourth book. Lacking the first eleven chapters of Titus Groan. Comprises thirty four notebooks plus typescripts and loose autograph leaves. In addition to text, drawings and poems, the notebooks include details of appointments, lists of current projects and Peake's queries to self regarding plot and characters. New entries are often dated, sometimes with location and time.

Chapter numbers given in title fields relate to the published version, not to original numbering of manuscript.

All but one item in this series was in the custody of UCL Special Collections prior to purchase by the British Library. UCL reference numbers have been crossed through. Slips of paper with UCL reference numbers and chapter numbers have been retained with volumes. Items were foliated by UCL but have been refoliated by the British Library.
