- The indexes, registers and filing guides contain lists of the subject files created by the Residency in the Persian Gulf between circa 1880 and 1947, including all those created under the auspice of the A and B Series, and Confidential Office. Each index is typewritten, but features numerous handwritten annotations, made during the repeated rounds of weeding, transfer and consolidation that the Bushire files underwent after 1947.

- The indexes were created and used to keep track of the successive rounds of weeding, transfer and consolidation that the Bushire records underwent in the wake of the Residency’s transfer from Bushire to Bahrain and the closure of the India Office in 1947, and the transfer of the records to London in the early 1950s.
