This sub-series is comprised of: two folders of papers mainly consisting of speculative letters of application for employment in India addressed to Lord or Lady Canning from various individuals, mostly received before Lord Canning took up office as Governor General of India [Mss Eur F699/1/2/12/2 and Mss Eur F699/1/2/12/3], and an alphabetical index to these letters [Mss Eur F699/1/2/12/1]; and a folder consisting of various applications made to Lord Canning before he assumed the office of Governor General of India, mostly sent after Canning left England for India [Mss Eur F699/1/2/12/4].
