Letters and memoranda received and copies of letters and memoranda sent by successive Military Secretaries to the Governor General. The correspondence is between the Military Secretary to the Governor General and the Secretary to the Government of India Military Department, between the Military Secretary and the Government of India Home, Foreign, and Public Works Departments, and between the Military Secretary and numerous other named individuals. This correspondence relates to applications for, and appointments to, military posts, and various other military matters.
The correspondence is contained in folders of numbered and docketed sets of papers, originally contained in labelled bundles of mostly one hundred sets of papers per bundle. The original bundles, held in pigeonholes between wooden boards, have now been repackaged into smaller folders.
