The word hadith literally means communication or narration. In the Islamic context it has come to denote the record of what the Prophet (Blessings of Allah and Peace be upon him) said, did, or tacitly approved. According to some scholars, the word hadith also covers reports about the sayings and deeds, etc. of the Companions of the Prophet in addition to the Prophet himself. The whole body of traditions is termed Hadith and its science 'Ilmu Al-Hadith.
كلمة الحديث تعني حرفيا التواصل أو السرد. وقد جاء في السياق الإسلامي للإشارة إلى ما قاله النبي صل الله عليه وسلم أو وافقه أو أقره ضمنا. ووفقًا لبعض العلماء، فإن كلمة الحديث تغطي أيضًا أحاديث عن أقوال وأفعال أصحاب النبي بالإضافة إلى النبي نفسه.
